Mini Biography
Aarti was born in Mumbai in the Sindhi-speaking Chabria family - consisting of her father, Ashok, who is a Dentist; mother Sunita - a designer for beaded curtains and pelmets; and a younger brother, Abhishek, who will be following in his father's dental profession.
Her family has no connections with Bollywood or any other Indian movie industry.
Aarti was modeling since the age of 3 years. She was the Farex baby, and did almost 200-250 ads,like Maggi noodles, Pepsodent tooth paste, Clean and Clear Facewash, Amul Frostick Ice-cream, LML trendy scooter, Krach cream etc.. Aarti was a good student in school, and college.
After completing her education, Aarti shot into fame when she was crowned Miss India during the year 1999. She then appeared in a music video for Sukhwinder Singh (Nashi Hi Nasha...); one titled 'Madhubala', one for Adnan Sami('Roothe hue hai kyo' from the album Tera Chehera..) - which only added to her popularity.
What makes her unique is that she is perhaps the only Miss India Worldwide who has made a significant mark in both mainstream Bollywood (Hindi) as well as regional (Kannada and Telugu movies).
She is fluent in Sindhi, English and Hindi. She made her debut in Bollywood with 'Tum Se Aacha Kaun Hai' in 2002, but before that she had also acted in a cameo role in 'Akansha' and 'Lajja' in 1989 and 2001 respectively. Apart from acting in comedies, she has shown that she can be versatile for portraying the role of an NRI tapori in 'Awara Paagal Deewana', of a woman with a split personality in 'Raja Bhaiya',a conservative Muslim belle who is a bar dancer, in love with an underworld don in 'Shootout at Lokhandwala', or a Christian housewife in 'Daddy Cool'.
Acting was her childhood dream, and she admits that films are perfect for her and give her utmost satisfaction.
She was the winner in the 4th Season of the Akshay Kumar-hosted TV Reality Show 'Khatron Ke Khiladi' during July 2011.
